Special Education Martial Arts, Cheerleading, & Venturing BSA
New Horizon Karate & More….. So Much More!

New Horizon Karate & More has been in West Boylston since 1986. During that time Shihan Jim Alty has continually expanded the number of programs, convenience, and space. They offer a full range of karate classes for adults and children of any level, from age 4 yrs. and up. Shihan is the former Chairman of the World Martial Arts Federation, Inc. and has been awarded the honor of Master Instructor of the year in 2002. This year he is being inducted into the prestigious Kempo/Kenpo Hall of Fame. Two years ago he was honored by the International Federation of JuJutsuans. He has been teaching and training in the martial arts for more than 30 years. He is recognized in both karate & jujitsu.

New Horizon Karate has added three new programs to the class offerings. The first program is called Fun Time Cheer. This program is a fun, fitness and friendship program for girls of any age. They learn tumbling and cheering in a safe fun program designed to be inclusive. Everyone can take part. They performed in events and at New Horizon Karate’s Open House and Family Days. We are planning to do birthday parties, summer camps and a Special Education version for children with Autism, ADD, and ADHD.

New Horizon Karate has always had a philosophy of giving back to the community and helping others. Shihan Alty has been teaching people with disabilities and special concerns for more than 20 yrs. He has a Special Education Martial Arts Movement Program for students with Autism, ADD, ADHD, and other nonverbal learning disabilities. These classes are held on Friday and soon a new class will begin on Saturdays. The program has been running for more than a year and has been very well received.  The program combines the martial arts, Brain Gym, and social development through movement. Parents have seen an improvement in their children.

The third program is Venturing BSA. This program is for teens and young adults designed to teach organizational and leadership skills through adventures. Events will include judo, hiking, biking, boating, skiing, snowboarding, camping and many other activities. This program is for both males and females. The people involved in the program will decide what to do and the staff will find adults to work with them. In this program the teen and young adults do all the organization and execution with guidance and adult supervision. The adults are always on site and oversee the program but the teens and young adults make the decisions. Leadership and teaching young men & women to make good choices by action is the goal.
